Abacus

Abacus :Count with beads to develop

mental Arithmetic

How it works

abacus

The abacus has two decks. Each deck, separated by a beam, has normally 13 rods with movable beads. In the modern types, each rod on the top deck contains 1 bead and each rod on the bottom deck contains 4 beads. Each bead on the upper deck has a value of five, while each bead on the lower deck has a value of one. The central rod annotated with a dot on the beam represents ones, the one to it left represents tens and so on.

Different methodologies are developed to perform arithmetical operations using an abacus. Once trained sufficiently and properly, the mind visualizes the abacus and performs all calculations at amazing speed.
